I want to connect to database post gres. In order to make connections to the database is it necessary to have the database installed on the IP symcon server ?
Not really, but you are limited to using our Windows version which allows you to install custom extensions. Alle the other platforms are limited to MySQL support.

All other platforms (e.g. IPS running on linux) wont allow mysql support with ip symcon, correct?
No. MySQL ist possible on all platforms.
PostgreSQL oder MSSQL is only available on the Windows platform.
