I was wondering if it is possible to assign value to a variable from the visualisation dashboard or not ?
Could you elaborate on your request a bit further. I am not sure what you would like to do.

I would like to change the value of a variable in the object tree from the webfront that is if i open the webfront i get an option to edit the value of the variable and it gets updated in the object tree.
Just add an action script to your sting variable 
… and that is easy: IPS offers to create the action script automatically. Just click the + icon. That will do the job, and you can now edit the string from Webfront.
